17th Annual South Lake Union Block Party returns Thursday, August 10

The 17th annual South Lake Union Block Party returns Thursday, August 10 to the South Lake Union Discovery Center lawn as the largest and longest-running festival celebrating the South Lake Union neighborhood.

This summer’s event features 50+ community businesses and organizations, a prominent main stage featuring local artists, a beer garden and food court, plus a letterpress salon produced by Partners in Print. This year’s event is expected to draw over 10,000 guests who live and work in the neighborhood and Seattle’s urban core.

In 2023, the neighborhood celebration will transition to a new steward with Bold Hat Productions (BHP) taking the lead in organizing the South Lake Union Block Party. Since its launch in 2005, the team at Vulcan Real Estate has overseen the direction of the South Lake Union Block Party, with the help of the BHP team. Bold Hat now oversees the event management, promotion, and strategic partnerships.

“The South Lake Union Block Party serves as a testament to the vibrant growth and community spirit of the neighborhood,” said Josh Lackey, associate marketing director for Vulcan Real Estate. “We’re confident that Bold Hat Productions will be excellent stewards of this festival that has become a cornerstone of the South Lake Union community.

Bold Hat Productions is a leading event production company, producing some of the region’s most recognizable events and tasting festivals, including the Fremont Fair, Kirkland Uncorked, and Fremont Oktoberfest, as well as providing event support to legacy events like the University District Street Fair.

“The South Lake Union Block Party continues to grow and flourish just as the South Lake Union neighborhood has evolved during the event’s 17-year history,” says Phil Megenhardt, president and creative director of Bold Hat Productions. “We are thrilled to continue the work that the team at Vulcan started, and build an amazing celebration for the whole South Lake Union community.”

Proceeds will benefit the South Lake Union Chamber of Commerce whose mission is to connect people and organizations in SLU to foster strategic relationships and opportunities. The South Lake Union Chamber empowers for-and-not for profit businesses in SLU to become community leaders and help one another prosper.
